I came to appreciate coffee and its culture during my time at college. I found that a hearty breakfast and cup of coffee was a much better way to start my day rather than spending the morning barely awake. After a short period of time, I found that my evening study could also use a little energy via a cup of coffee.
After finishing school, a friend and I decided to open up a coffee house down in New Orleans. After moving there, I spent some time working in a local coffee shop; and fell even more in love with the idea of owning a shop of my own. However, after doing a lot of research and enjoying every ounce of the New Orleans culture, we decided it wasn’t the right time.
After spending more time in school to get a more useful degree (Accounting is a much more practical major, compared to my original degree of Religion, I know, shocker!), I moved back to Atlanta into the Brookhaven area. I toiled away for a few years in the corporate arena and then serendipity happened.
Village Place Brookhaven was under construction and they already had a coffee house space with a drive-thru in the plans.
By the time we got the doors opened, it had been nearly a decade since the New Orleans dream and this time, it was near my old stomping grounds and in my current backyard of Brookhaven.
Admittedly, many things had changed since the New Orleans dream. I now had a family partner, the menu was expanded, and we were going to have a drive-thru.
One thing that had remained the same was the commitment to quality and value. We take great pride in our highest quality ingredients, while trying to keep costs relative to our peers. Our foray into beer and wine has been educational for me, the staff, and our customers who come to the monthly wine tastings.
On an environmental note, we try to balance the importance of being “green” as well as being financially prudent. When we opened, we started using an eco-friendly cup and found that the leak rate was just unacceptable and though best intentioned, it was impossible to use the most eco-friendly cup. We will continue to search for environmentally friendly options that work best for the customer as well as the environment.
The rest of our disposables (napkins, lids, to-go containers, straws, cutlery, java jackets, and bags) are either made with compostable or recycled material.
We hope you will try us out at different times of the day, as we offer several different food and drink options that you can enjoy throughout your day; breakfast goodies in the morning, sandwiches and salads during the afternoon, or pizza, desserts, beer and wine at night.
As we move into our second year, I want to sincerely thank the community for their support and appreciate all the feedback from our customers. We wouldn’t be here without you.
